Skipper Short extends, Buckingham signs on for BBL|15

Adelaide Strikers skipper, Matt Short, has put pen to paper to extend his time in Adelaide for a further two seasons.

Short, who this season surpassed 2,000 career BBL runs, extended before the Contracting Embargo and Player Movement Window, keeping him in blue until at least the end of BBL|17.

Short said he was excited by the prospect of extending his career in Adelaide and playing in front of the Strikers’ passionate fans.

“Firstly, I want thank all of the fans for their support throughout a frustrating season on and off the field in BBL|14,” Short said.

“We may not have had the wins we were after but hopefully we entertained you at some stage.

“In saying that, I couldn’t be happier or more excited for the next three years playing at Adelaide Oval – the best ground in the world.

“I can’t wait to work closely with Painey to get a strong group together to bring the trophy back to Adelaide.”

The powerful opening batter had a frustrating season with injury but showed his class with a magnificent century, the second of his career, against the Brisbane Heat on a record-breaking night at Adelaide Oval.

Joining Short in re-signing before the embargo period, was fast bowler Jordan Buckingham, who inked a deal with the Strikers for BBL|15.

Buckingham made the move from the Heat ahead of BBL|14, debuting against his former team.

The skillful pacer played the final three games this year, impressing through the middle of the innings and during the power surge.

With the Contracting Embargo currently in place, clubs cannot undertake any contracting activity during this time.

The Player Movement Window will take place between 28 January - 6 February, where clubs may only sign an uncontracted player from another club, trade players with another club or trade draft positions.

The Strikers currently have nine players locked in for BBL|15.

Current Adelaide Strikers BBL|15 squad:

Cameron Boyce, Jordan Buckingham, Alex Carey, Thomas Kelly, Harry Nielsen, Lloyd Pope, Alex Ross, Matt Short, Henry Thornton.
