The Sydney Thunder have proven too strong in this evening’s Weber WBBL|10 clash at North Sydney Oval, defeating the Adelaide Strikers by 64 runs.
After winning the bat flip, the Thunder got off to a blistering start, taking 19 from the second over of the match.
Georgia Voll found the boundary with ease, as the home side made 42 from the initial powerplay.
Irish all-rounder Orla Prendergast took the important wicket of Chamari Athapaththu, but Phoebe Litchfield and Voll combined for a 94-run partnership, propelling the Thunder to a formidable total.
Heather Knight joined Voll and kept the run rate ticking along, before Voll was eventually dismissed for a well-made 92 (55).
Prendergast then dismissed Knight to pick up her third wicket, as the Thunder finished 5-212.
Laura Wolvaardt was dismissed early, which saw the promotion of Ellie Johnston who was making her Adelaide Strikers debut.
Johnston’s cameo came to an end on 18 (11), which was quickly followed by the departure of Tahlia McGrath without scoring.
Katie Mack set about building the innings and combined with Maddie Penna for a 52-run partnership, before Penna was brilliantly caught on the rope by Anika Learoyd for 25.
Mack brought up her fifty with a six down the ground but was stumped very next ball.
Late cameos from Jemma Barsby and Anesu Mushangwe weren’t enough, as the Strikers move to one win and two losses from their opening three games.
Adelaide Strikers will play the Melbourne Renegades at CitiPower Centre on Sunday, with the first ball commencing at 1.10pm ACDT.
