WBBL: Iconic Moments of the Decade

Ahead of tomorrow's mouth-watering WBBL|10 season-opener against Brisbane Heat at Adelaide Oval, take a look back at the Ten Moments of the Decade for the Adelaide Strikers.

WBBL|01New Beginnings
On 12 December 2015 the Adelaide Strikers took to the field for the first time in WBBL history against Hobart Hurricanes in Launceston, led by inaugural captain Lauren Ebsary.

Megan Schutt was exceptional with the ball collecting 3-8 from four overs, and while Bridget Patterson (37) tried to will her side over the line, the Strikers fell an agonisingly two runsshort.

Despite the close loss, this was the start of a special journey with this Adelaide Strikers team.

WBBL|02 Divine Devine
Chasing 144 for victory against Hobart at Glenelg Oval is season two, Sophie Devine was at her scintillating best.

The powerful batting allrounder smashed eight sixes and 10 fours on her way to 103* from just 48 balls.

The New Zealand international ensured the Strikers chased down the competitive total with 21 balls remaining.

WBBL|03 A Photo Finish
The Strikers met the Melbourne Renegades at Glenelg Oval in WBBL|03 and after posting 139 from their 20 overs, this game was destined to go down to the wire.

When the Renegades were reduced to 4-38 in the eighth over, victory was all but a forgone conclusion for the Strikers.

However, a half century to Renegades skipper Amy Satterthwaite and some late order hitting, the game came down to the final ball.

Needing to defend two runs from the last ball, Suzie Bates bowled an overpitched delivery, but all Leah Tahuhu could do was hit it straight back to Bates who held on for a famous one-run victory.

WBBL|04 Super Over Thriller
A brilliant 99 not out from Sophie Devine in WBBL|04 wasn’t quite enough to clinch victory after 20 overs against Hobart.

Batting first, the Strikers set the Hurricanes 190 for victory, but scores were tied at the end of Hobart’s chase. Once again, enter Sophie Devine.

It took her just three balls for Devine to hit three consecutive boundaries and win a thriller for the Strikers at Karen Rolton Oval.

WBBL|05 Semi Final Success
Only the Perth Scorchers stood in Adelaide’s way of making their first WBBL final, and with names like Meg Lanning, Nicole Bolton, Georgia Redmayne, Jemma Barsby and Heather Graham in the Perth side, things weren’t going to be easy.

But with the ever reliable Megan Schutt and Sophie Devine combining for 4-37 from their eight overs, the Strikers restricted the Scorchers to just 126 from their 20.

Devine again starred with the bat, making an unbeaten 65, while Tahlia McGrath (36) helped guide Adelaide to their maiden WBBL final.

WBBL|06 Air McGrath
Who could forget that brilliant team catch at North Sydney Oval against the Brisbane Heat in WBBL|06?!

Facing Amanda-Jade Wellington, Amanda Kerr smashed a full toss in the direction of Maddie Penna at mid-wicket.

Diving athletically to her left, Penna got fingertips to the ball sending it to a diving Tahlia McGrath at mid-on. McGrath held on to claim one of the catches of the tournament, as the Strikers went on to win the match by 18 runs.

WBBL|07 Wello Takes Five
Fan-favourite Amanda-Jade Wellington turned it on in the eliminator against the Brisbane Heat at Adelaide Oval in WBBL|07.

Wellington ripped through the Heat to claim the unbelievable figures of 5-8 from her four overs, the best WBBL bowling figures at the time. She would go on to take the exact same figures against the Melbourne Renegades one year later.

The Strikers went on to win the game by eight wickets with 21 balls remaining, thanks to unbeaten knocks from Katie Mack (50*) and Tahlia McGrath (38*).

WBBL|08 Pretty Bloody Special
The Strikers wouldn’t be denied in WBBL|08, clinching their first championship after defeating the Sydney Sixers by 10 runs.

Batting first, the Strikers posted a respectable 147 thanks to contributions from Katie Mack, Tahlia McGrath and an unbeaten 52 from West Indian international Deandra Dottin.

Needing to break the innings open at the top, Darcie Brown was instrumental dismissing Alyssa Healy in the third over, before Dottin removed Suzie Bates and Ash Gardner, and Jemma Barsby claimed Erin Burns to leave the Sixers reeling at 4-16.

There was some resistance from Sydney in the middle order but it wasn’t enough, as Adelaide lifted the trophy for the first time in emotional scenes.

WBBL|09 Back-To-Back
Not being satisfied by winning the championship in WBBL|08, the Strikers set out to emulate the feats of the Sydney Sixers and Brisbane before them and claim consecutive WBBL titles.

The Strikers dominated the minor rounds, finishing three games clear on top of the table and earning themselves an automatic passage to the final.

Facing fierce rivals Brisbane, claiming a second successive championship was going to be a tough ask.

Batting first, the Strikers were cruising to a large total thanks to a 66-run partnership by Laura Wolvaardt and Tahlia McGrath, before a middle-order collapse restricted the home team to 125 from their 20 overs.

Stakes were high for the Strikers bowlers, and they rose to the occasion. Megan Schutt (2-30from four), Jemma Barsby (1-15 from three) and Tahlia McGrath (2-16 from two) were important, but it was Amanda-Jade Wellington’s 3-16 from her four overs that sealed victory in front of a vocal Adelaide Oval crowd.
