A New Year's Eve blockbuster against powerhouse Perth Scorchers and a January 11 home re-match with BBL|13 champions Brisbane Heat headline the Adelaide Strikers' full season fixture unveiled today by Cricket Australia.
The New Year's Eve celebration has established itself as a marquee match on the BBL calendar, and will generate extra pyrotechnics this summer as five-time champions the Scorchers and the Strikers do battle for the perpetual Jason Gillespie Trophy.
The Strikers triumphed over their rivals from the west in last season's Knockout Final at Perth Stadium thanks to some leg-spin magic from Lloyd Pope who snared 4-24.
The next Adelaide Oval home game after NYE will bring the Heat, who proved the benchmark in BBL|13 with the Strikers adding additional firepower by securing emerging South Australia fast bowler Jordan Buckingham from Brisbane earlier this year.
Further signings for the boys in blue will be announced in coming weeks, ahead of the annual BBL draft.
After the Strikers' barnstorming run to last summer's Challenger on the back of five consecutive victories, their BBL|14 campaign begins against Sydney Thunder in Canberra on December 17 before returning to home turf to take on Melbourne Stars three days later.
The Strikers will also host Hobart Hurricanes, as part of the Strikers First Nations Round on December 27, and Sydney Sixers on January 15 at Adelaide Oval which is renowned for its unsurpassed levels of atmosphere and support among BBL venues.
"The boys are excited for the season ahead and looking to build further on the momentum they harnessed in the second half of last summer," Interim General Manager Cricket Shaun Williams said.
"We thrive on the fantastic support we gain from our Strikers fans and this campaign looms as one with huge promise."
