There will be two Short’s up the top of the order for the Adelaide Strikers opening clash of KFC BBL|13, with Head Coach Jason Gillespie confirming that D’Arcy Short will debut on Saturday night.
He will open alongside recently appointed Adelaide Strikers captain Matt Short.
D’Arcy Short will be one of four potential debutants at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night, with James Bazley, Brendan Doggett and Englishman Jamie Overton all named in their first Strikers squad.
Squad of 13 v Heat: Matthew Short (c), Wes Agar, James Bazley, Cameron Boyce, Brendan Doggett, Adam Hose, Chris Lynn, Ben Manenti, Harry Nielsen (wk), Jamie Overton, D’Arcy Short, Henry Thornton, Jake Weatherald
The opening duo were the only slots confirmed by Gillespie ahead of tomorrow’s match against the Brisbane Heat.
“D’Arcy will open, you’ll have Short/Short up top which is very exciting,” Gillespie said.
“D’Arcy has been a fine player for many years and we just think he’s a quality player who adds real value, he bowls some spin as well, he’s a very good fielder and he smacks them up top.
“We’re excited to see what he can bring for the Adelaide Strikers.”
Brisbane competed in the opening match of BBL|13 on Thursday night, earning a significant win over the Melbourne Stars.
“The Heat played wonderfully well, so we know what we are up against,” Gillespie said.
“But we feel we’ve got the team to compete really hard with them.
“We’ve had a great week of training, all the new lads have fitted in well and they are ready to go.
“They’re excited, they’re buzzing, the opportunity to play at Adelaide Oval in front of our fans is pretty exciting and the lads are really looking forward to it.”
